Description
This is a monument located approximately 2 metres north of the path and 14 metres west of the lych gate in the churchyard of St. Peter's, dating from around 1900. It is made of cast iron and was produced by the Etna Foundry. The monument features a headstone dedicated to Ethel Mary Newton, who died on 27 July 1900 at the age of 12, with the inscription "gone from us but not forgotten." The lower panel has moulding that crosses at the top angles and supports an ornate and pierced iron cross. The cross is mounted on a stem with a moulded base and is draped with pierced foliage and ribbons that extend from the panel to the cross arms and surround the top of the cross. The centre of the cross is filled with ornate and interwoven letters "IHS." This monument is an example of the unusual and finely detailed cast iron monuments found in this churchyard.
