Description

This listing describes a pair of shops located at 111, 111A, and 113 High Street, with an additional address at 2 Butt Lane. The buildings date from the late 16th century and early 19th century. No. 111 is timber-framed and rendered, while No. 113 is constructed of brick. Both shops feature a continuous parapeted front made of early 19th-century painted brick. No. 111 has a plain tile roof that is at right angles to High Street and hipped at the front, while No. 113 has a similar roof made of Welsh slate.

The exterior of the buildings consists of two storeys with a 2x2 window arrangement. No. 111 has a 20th-century casement window with asymmetrical lights on the first floor and a 20th-century shop front featuring four arched lights and a central door, all set in an area of red brick with a painted fascia above. The corner facing Butt Lane is curved and features corbelling. No. 113 has a 12-pane sash window on the first floor with a timber frame and a consoled hood. The ground floor includes a tripartite sash window with a timber architrave and a doorcase adorned with roundel decoration over fluted pilasters and a flat hood; the door consists of two glazed panels over four moulded panels.

The long side facing Butt Lane has one truncated and one large ridgeline stack, along with a course of angled bricks below the eaves. The first floor features two 16-pane sash windows, a 12-pane sash window, and a small and large two-light window. The ground floor includes a 16-pane sash window with a segmental head, a door opening, and two small fixed windows.

Inside, No. 111 has chamfered tie beams on the first floor. Despite alterations to No. 111, it remains a significant structure with early origins. Nos. 111A and 113 High Street and No. 2 Butt Lane are included in the listing for the first time.
