Description
This is a 16th-century aisled barn located approximately 30 meters southeast of Barnsley Cottage. It is timber framed, weatherboarded, and features a roof made of handmade red clay tiles. The barn has four bays aligned roughly north to south, with two aisles and large double doors on both sides in the second bay from the south. The structure has hipped ends and includes jowled posts, cambered tiebeams, and arched braces connecting the tiebeams to the arcade plates. The arcade plates and wallplates have edge-halved and bridled scarfs, and the walls feature primary straight bracing. The roof is constructed with clasped purlins. While the main components of the barn are medieval in origin, the building is primarily from the 16th century and has undergone various phases of rebuilding over time, particularly to the walls and roof.
