Description
Coppins is a 14th-century house featuring an open hall and a one-storey cross wing. The building is timber framed and plastered, with the frame exposed on the south side of the jettied wing. There is weatherboarding below the jettied section and on the east end wall of the hall range. The roof is hipped over the wing and gabled over the hall, with a restored red brick chimney stack located on the hall ridge. A peg-tiled lean-to porch is situated at the south-east corner. The south elevation of the ground storey has a set of three wooden casements beneath the jetty and two sets along the hall range, while the first storey features a range of three casement sets. The hall was laterally divided with an added first storey during the 16th and 17th centuries. The floor joists of the wing are heavy, with central tenons, and the hall contains heavy wind braces and a cross-quadrate crown post.
