Description

Coopersale Lodge is a house dating from the mid-15th century, with significant additions made in the late 16th century. It is a two-story timber-framed building with plastered walls, featuring a central trill section and two cross-wings. The front facade has a four-window arrangement with small-paned sash windows. The hall section has a parapet, while the cross-wings are gabled. The roof is tiled with red brick stacks at each end of the hall.

A large, single-story angled bay with a hipped tiled roof and gabled porch was added on the north side in the 18th century. The east cross-wing was extended to the west in the 16th century and subsequently tiled and slated, with a later lean-to featuring white weatherboard walls. The south face displays catslide tile and slate roofs, incorporating two inset dormers. A 16th-century stair tower and upper walls are clad in white weatherboard.

Inside, both cross-wings retain crown post roofs. The hall roof was raised in the 16th century when the stair tower was built, and is now a side purlin roof, incorporating much re-used timber. The 16th-century extension to the east wing has a Queen Post roof and wind bracing. An original staircase is located within the stair tower.
