Description
The North Pavilion and South Pavilion at Copt Hall were built in 1895 by C. E. Kempe, who also remodeled and enlarged Copt Hall for E. J. Wythes. These pavilions are constructed with stone casings and brick linings, featuring square plans topped with domed roofs in the Baroque style. The west fronts are adorned with attached Roman Ionic columns that frame Venetian windows, which have balustrades above shell-arched niches with broken pediments on consoles. Round-headed dormer windows are set in stone surrounds with pediments. The south side elevation of the North Pavilion includes an archway framed by caryatides, while the north side elevation of the South Pavilion has a similar archway framed by atlantides. The pavilions are included partly for their group value with Copt Hall, which is also listed in the Epping & Ongar Rural District.
