Description
Linden Cottage and Dawkins is a pair of cottages from the 18th century located on the west side of High Road in Chigwell. They are timber framed, with parts weatherboarded and parts featuring mock timber framing with roughcast render. The cottages have a roof made of handmade red clay tiles and consist of four bays aligned northeast to southwest, with an axial chimney stack located one bay from the northeast end, facing southeast.
The southwest half, known as Linden Cottage, is weatherboarded and has a 20th-century glazed porch, along with two 20th-century casement windows on each floor. The northeast half, called Dawkins, has weatherboarding on the ground floor and mock timber framing above. A former shop extends forward and now features a glazed bay with a glazed door, along with one 20th-century casement window on the ground floor and two on the first floor.
