Description

LIPPITTS HILL 1. 1767 Grotto at Lippittshill Lodge TQ 49 NW 6/218 II GV 2. 1880s. Large half sunk structure, half raised as mound. Ashlar re-used with some carved mouldings of cornices, etc. Small chambers top lit by holes in mound and hexagonal openings formerly with glazed dome above arcade and niches. Rough stone steps up mound outside. Stone steps inside down to pool with rough arches, central cyclopeian pillar.

Lippitsthill Lodge and Grotto form a group.
