Ze7 Lippitts Hill: Officers Accommodation

The Officers Accommodation Block, built in 1939-40 by the War Office, is a single-storey building with a timber frame. It features timber rusticated weatherboard cladding on a brick plinth, a shallow-pitched timber roof covered with felt, and metal casement windows.

The building has a rectangular plan and consists of seven bays. It sits on a brick plinth and includes a plain, flat panel timber door in each gable. The other bays on both the east and west elevations are defined by multi-paned metal casement windows.

Access to the interior is through a doorway in the north gable. The interior is utilitarian, with boarded ceilings and walls. However, it has tongue and groove wainscoting around the corridors and rooms, adding a domestic touch and suggesting a higher standard of accommodation. The carpentry is functional and consistent, featuring one-over-three timber panel doors and 1940s 'crittal' style window furniture. Inside, a single corridor runs from front to back, with small rooms, storage cupboards, and bathrooms on either side. Most of the rooms are laid out as bedrooms, with one at the southern end arranged as a sitting room.
