Description
This is a group of three shops with extensions to the rear, dating back to the 17th century or earlier, and altered in the 18th century and later. The building is timber-framed and plastered, with red clay tile roofs. It is two storeys high, with attics over numbers 136 and 138. Number 140 is two storeys high. Number 138 has a gable with 19th-century bargeboards and a late 19th-century window in the attic. The first floor has a three-by-two-by-three window arrangement of small-paned, vertical sliding sash windows. Those to number 138 are 19th-century and have pentice boards above; those to number 136 are 18th-century and have moulded architraves. The building has projecting shop fronts. Number 140 has a 20th-century shop front and a part-glazed door. To the left of number 138, there's a 20th-century shop front and a glazed door, with a 19th-century window to the right and a moulded fascia. Number 136 has a coved and moulded fascia, with three fluted pilaster strips, decorative capitals, a moulded base and weatherboarding below the window to the right.
