Description
Peldon Hall is an early 14th-century hall house that has been extensively altered in the late 16th and late 18th centuries. It features a timber frame with plaster and a red plain tile roof, and has two gables on the south front. The building is two storeys high and has a three-window range of 18th-century double hung vertical sliding sashes with glazing bars. There is one red brick chimney stack from the 16th century that was extensively rebuilt in the 18th century, along with another red brick chimney stack from the 18th century.
Inside, the original service wing remains, showcasing an exposed frame on the first floor. Part of the original 14th-century hall roof, which includes an arch-braced collar purlin, is still in place. The east wing dates from around 1590 and features stop-chamfered beams. A notable late 18th-century staircase with stick balusters and a moulded handrail can be found, along with 18th-century doors and fire surrounds. There are modern lean-to extensions on the east and west sides. Adjacent to the hall is an 18th-century bakehouse made of red brick, which includes the original red brick dog kennel.
