Description

This is an early, purpose-built cooperative store, dating to around 1890. It originally included a public reading room above the shop. The building is two storeys high and constructed of red and grey brick, with a grey slate roof featuring a gable facing the street. There are three windows on the first floor, featuring tall double-hung sashes with glazing bars and segmental heads. The window reveals are moulded brick, with stucco springings and keystones. A small timbered section is incorporated into the upper gable, and there are heavily moulded vergeboards. A flipped grey slate canopy extends over the front. Two of the shop windows retain their original pilasters and timber panelling at lower levels.
