Description
The Old Customs House is a mid-18th century house constructed of red brick with a red plain tile hipped roof. It has two storeys, with parapets and a moulded string course. The front elevation features a three-window arrangement of double-hung sash windows with glazing bars. A good Doric porch with detached columns and a flat canopy, topped by a semi-circular fanlight, provides access to a six-panelled door set within a panelled reveal. Red brick chimney stacks are present. A red brick single-storey extension, dating to the 19th century, is located at the north end of the building. It was formerly known as Row Hedge House, at the corner of Darkhouse Lane (the former location of Rowhedge Ironworks).
