Description
The Church of St Martin is a building with origins dating back to the early 12th century, featuring a nave and a west tower that was added later in the same century. The majority of the structure is from the 14th and 15th centuries, with significant restoration carried out in the 19th century. The building incorporates a considerable amount of Roman brick. The upper part of the tower fell into disrepair in the 17th century, likely following the siege in 1648. A notable feature of the church is the 14th-century roof truss that forms an open screen in the chancel. At the time of the survey in 1971, the church was no longer used for ecclesiastical purposes but was reopened in 2022 by the Greek Orthodox Church.
