Description
Wick Farmhouse is a late 16th-century house that incorporates remains of a 15th-century open hall. It features a timber-framed and plastered rectangular plan with three bays and a chimney bay, topped by a gabled red plain tile roof. The building has two storeys and a three-window range of late 18th-century vertical sliding double-hung tri-partite sashes. The entrance boasts a simple pediment doorcase with a modern part-glazed door. A central chimney stack from the mid-16th century has diagonal pilaster strips, four shafts, and a square base with a moulded capping, while an early 17th-century end chimney stack is also present. At the rear, there are two gabled wings.
Internally, little of the 15th-century structure remains, apart from some main frame members and "great bricks" in the tile base of the central stack. Part of the original cross wing survives, featuring heavy floor joists. The 16th-century detailing is extensive, including stop-chamfered floor joists. There are two fireplaces; one has a timber mantel beam, and the other features a three-centred brick arch. The building includes jowled storey posts and some soot-blackened rafters that have been reused in the roof. Late 18th-century panelling, doors, and ironmongery of good quality are also present.
