Description

20 and 22 Crouch Street is a large, three-story house of the mid-18th century, constructed of red brick and originally built for John Cole, a merchant. The house has a modillioned cornice and a parapet with painted bands and quoins. It features a five-window range of double-hung sash windows with glazing bars, set in plain reveals with flat rubbed brick heads. The central front section projects slightly, and the central window on the third floor has an arched head. The central doorcase is distinguished by a pedimented head with a modillioned cornice. The tiled roof has a treble span with three hips to the east and west. Part of the original building was demolished, and a three-story wing was constructed in 1971.
