Description
The Stockwell Arms Inn dates to the late 15th century and has undergone significant restoration. It is a two-storey timber-framed building with plastered panels and tiled roofs. A cross wing is located at the north end, with the upper storey projecting westward and northward. This projection features a moulded and embattled bressumer, supported by a heavy diagonal angle bracket with a decorated capital carved with an angel (now defaced). Curved brackets also support the overhang, although most of these are now concealed within modern pebble-dash plaster which covers the building's exterior between the exposed studwork, much of which has been renewed. Two gables define the south front. The interior retains moulded ceiling beams.
