Description
Winnock's Almshouses, built in 1678 by John Winnock, is a notable example of 17th-century brick architecture. This long range of six tenements is constructed of red brick and features two storeys with tiled roofs. The north front is divided into three bays by pilasters, with a moulded brick band between the storeys. The north and south bays have parapets, while the central bay is topped with a pediment. The façade includes a six-window range of broad double-hung sashes with glazing bars, and the original doors are two panels with bolection moulding. The two central doorways are combined into one architectural composition, framed by three pilasters topped with half balls and a broken voluted pediment. Within the main pediment, there are two sunk inscription panels; one features the initials I M and the other displays the date 1678.
