Description
Fitzjohn's Farmhouse is a 15th century timber-framed and plastered hall house that was altered and extended in the 16th century. Aside from some modern additions at the rear and the restoration of the chimney stacks, there have not been many changes since then. The east front features projecting cross wings at both the north and south ends, along with two 16th century gables on the central block. All four gables retain their original 16th century carved bargeboards and moulded pendants. The house has a four-window range with three and four light casements, and a late 16th century door with eight panels. Between the storeys on the main block, there are remnants of ornamental plasterwork. The roof is tiled, with the south wing hipped at the rear, a gabled dormer on the main block, and a late 16th century central chimney stack with group diagonal shafts. Inside, some original roof construction remains, along with original doorways and blocked windows, as well as some 16th to 17th century panelling.
