Description
Babylon is a Grade II listed building originally constructed in the 15th century as a timber-framed and plastered house. It underwent alterations in the 16th century and later renovations in the 20th century. The building features a cross wing at the west end, which has a jettied upper storey and exposed timber-framing. It consists of two storeys and attics. The windows are casements with leaded lights, and the doorway is adorned with a moulded architrave and cornice. The roof is tiled and half hipped at the east end, with a chimney stack at the west end that includes both old and rebuilt octagonal shafts.
Babylon is part of a group that includes Boreham Manor North, Boreham Manor South, Ebenezer Cottage, Coppers, the Old Rectory, the Church of St Andrew, Boreham Lodge, the Old Vicarage, and Church Cottages (Nos 1 to 4, consecutively) as well as McMillan's Cottages (Nos 1 and 2). Church Cottages, Nos 1 to 4, are noted as buildings of local interest.
