Description

The monument, located 9 yards north of the north transept to Viscountess Falkland, dates from 1778. It is made of stone and has a square base set on three steps. The design features a giant cavetto that meets an undercut ovolo with sharp arrisses. Each face of the monument has a rectangular panel with carved sunken oval panels, with the eastern panel inscribed, although the inscription is illegible. The monument is topped with a pyramid. It is likely that the iron railings surrounding the monument are contemporary with its construction. The monument was created by Edward Pierce and designed by G. Gibson.
