Description

The Lodge to Kelvedon Hall is an entrance lodge built in 1938, designed by Lord Gerald Wellesley and Trenwith Wells. It is constructed from stuccoed brick and features a triumphal arch entrance with a cornice and a partly balustraded parapet topped by a central urn. The arch's inner surface is coffered and decorated with rosettes.

There are two attached single-storey flanking lodges, also stuccoed and with parapets that are partly balustraded. Each of these lodges has a central projecting section with a niche that contains an urn. The inner faces of the lodges, which flank the passageway, are designed with five sash windows that have glazing bars, including four 3x4 panes and one 2x4 pane, along with lodge door porches that resemble guard rooms. The doors feature a flush panelled lower section and a glazed upper section, with a central light surrounded by sidelights.

The entrance is completed with iron gates that have a spear motif, a central wreath, and heraldic designs. The Lodge, along with Kelvedon Hall, the stable block, the orangery, and the garden wall, forms a cohesive group.
