Description
The stable block, located north-west of Kelvedon Hall, dates from the late 18th century and later. It is constructed of red brick with peg-tiled roofs and forms three sides of a courtyard on the north-west side of the hall. The north-east and north-west sides feature central two-storey cross-wings, which have open pediments, elliptical arched entrance ways, and bull's eye windows with gauged brick voussoirs. The south-west side includes an end bay of similar design, which contains seven loose boxes that have been converted into garages on the ground floor. The north-east section of the north-west side has been converted into cottages, while harness rooms and other offices are located on the north-east side. The cottage windows are segment-headed with plain reveals, sashes with glazing bars, and consist of three by four panes. The stable block is part of a group that includes Kelvedon Hall, the Lodge, the orangery, and the garden wall.
