Description
This is a barn located approximately 40 metres northwest of Pope Mill Farmhouse, dating from the early 18th century and extended in the 19th century. The barn is timber framed and weatherboarded, with a roof made of red clay pantiles and some areas covered in corrugated perspex. It consists of five bays aligned roughly east to west, with a midstrey to the north. The barn has been extended to the west by four additional bays, which are slightly angled to the south, creating an independent frame. The outer ends and the midstrey are half-hipped.
The original barn is constructed from high-quality imported softwood, likely Baltic pine, and features fully pegged construction, jowled posts, and arched braces to the tiebeams on either side of the middle bay. Notably, there are no tiebeams between bays one and two, and four and five. The walls have primary straight bracing, and the roof is a clasped purlin design. The western extension does not include any large doors and has unjowled posts, primary straight bracing, and a clasped purlin roof.
