Description

Woodhouse Farmhouse is a house dating from the early 17th century, with alterations made in the 18th and 19th centuries. It is timber framed and plastered, featuring some weatherboarding, and has a roof made of handmade red plain tiles. The building has a T-plan layout, consisting of a three-bay range facing southwest, with an early 19th-century axial stack located between the left and middle bays. There is also a one-bay original rear wing that has an internal stack at the end, and an 18th-century extension in the left rear corner.

The farmhouse is two storeys tall, with a one-storey wing beyond the rear stack that has attics, though its date is uncertain. On the ground floor, there are two mid-19th-century sash windows with 16 lights and crown glass. The first floor features three late 19th-century casement windows. The entrance includes an off-centre six-panel door with a simple canopy supported by brackets, accessed by three cement-rendered brick steps. The rear bay has a gambrel roof.

On the right side of the main range, there is one mid-19th-century sash window with 12 lights and crown glass on the ground floor. The rear elevation includes a six-panel door, with the top two panels glazed, and the right return of the rear bay has a 19th-century casement and a five-panel door, with the top panel glazed. The left return of the main range features a mid-19th-century sash window with 12 lights and crown glass on the ground floor, shaped sprockets below the eaves of the 18th-century extension, and a four-panel door in the rear bay. The rear elevation of the rear bay is weatherboarded and includes one 20th-century casement window.

Inside, the main range has jowled posts and close studding, which is mostly plastered over but visible where it is enclosed by the 18th-century extension. There is a chamfered binding beam with lamb's tongue stops, joists that are plastered to the soffits, and a 19th-century cast iron cooking range set in an early 19th-century fire surround. The rear wing has a large wood-burning hearth that faces to the rear, which has been reduced for a 20th-century grate. There are two staircases, and in the rear bay, there is a chamfered beam with roll stops. The farmhouse is located on a moated site.
