Description
Allshot's Farmhouse is a house dating from around 1600, with extensions made in the 20th century. It features a timber frame that is plastered and has a roof covered with machine-made red plain tiles. The original structure consists of two bays aligned approximately northeast to southwest, with a stack at the northeast end. The house originally extended further in this direction but was demolished in the 20th century. There is a 19th-century external stack at the southwest end and a 20th-century extension to the northwest, creating a T-plan layout. Additionally, there is a single-storey extension to the southwest. The windows are all 20th-century casements, and there is a door in the southwest extension. The farmhouse has one storey with attics and features close studding with straight trenched braces. Inside, there is a chamfered axial beam with lamb's tongue stops in the northeast bay and plain joists of vertical section. The chamfered axial beam in the southwest bay is enlarged at one end and has unusually elaborate stops and a moulded step. The farmhouse is shown as Holdshot's Farm on the tithe map of 1841, located in the Essex Record Office.
