Description
Nos 7 to 17 on Church Street are a range of 19th-century red brick almshouses. They are single-storey buildings with a total of 12 windows featuring mullioned and transomed metal casements that have leaded lattice lights. The windows are set in plain reveals with 'Tudor' arched heads. A plaque on the west end indicates that the almshouses were originally built around 1400 and were rebuilt in 1869. The ends of the buildings are gabled and feature barge boards that are intricately carved with roses, horse heads, and pelicans. The roofs are tiled and have diagonally set chimney stacks topped with brick dentilled caps and moulded brick bases. Additionally, there is a serrated brick eaves course.
