Description
The stable block, located approximately 50 metres south of Abbot's Hall, was built in the late 18th century. It is constructed of red brick in Flemish bond and features a roof made of handmade red clay tiles. The building has a rectangular plan facing northeast, with a rear wing on the right side and late 19th-century extensions to the left and center at the back. The main block is two storeys high, while the extensions are one storey.
The front facade has a five-window range of casements, each with six lights, featuring two-centred Gothick heads made of gauged brick and Y-tracery. There is a central plain boarded door with a similar overlight above it. The hipped roof has moulded dentilled eaves and is topped with a round wooden cupola that has an ogival lead roof. Inside the main range, there is an entrance passage and one loose box with a hayloft above, although the left half of the building has been converted into a fives court.
