Description
This is a barn located approximately 50 meters north of Piccott's Farmhouse in Great Saling, dating from the late 14th century to the early 15th century. It features a timber frame and is weatherboarded, with some areas covered in plaster. The barn has a brick plinth and a roof clad in corrugated iron, which is hipped to the left and half hipped to the right, complete with gablets.
The structure consists of seven bays and includes two midstreys, with the one on the left being hipped and a catslide on the right. It has arched braces supporting the tie beams and top plates, and the top plates are joined with halved and bridled scarfs. The eaves assembly is reversed outshot, and the jowled wall posts align with the top plate. All jowls feature a scotia above a return pattern, similar to those found in the barns at Powers Hall and Bradwell-Juxta-Coggeshall.
Additionally, there are arched braces to the aisle ties, wall, and storey posts. The tall square four-armed crown posts are braced to the centre purlin and tie beam. Inside, there is an edge brick threshing floor.
