Description
The railings and gateway located approximately 7 metres south of The Manse are from the early 19th century, although they were reset in the 20th century. They are made of cast iron and sit on a base wall of red brick. The railings are divided into six sections that step up a gradient and feature fleur-de-lys finials. At the eastern end and on each side of the gate, there are hollow square piers adorned with an elaborate design of scrolls and foliage, topped with solid tented finials. The overall length of the railings is approximately 12 metres, and their height is around 0.80 metre. The design is related to the railings at Panfield Farmhouse in Panfield, which are inscribed with 'Goss Rayne 1837', indicating their connection to the Rayne Iron Foundry.
