Description

The Old Rectory is a house built in the early 19th century, with an extension added in the same period. It is constructed from gault brick and has a slate roof. The building has a double pile plan that faces southwest, featuring two internal stacks that are symmetrically arranged. To the left of the main range is an early 19th-century extension that is set back from the main elevation, which includes one external stack on the left and one rear stack. There is also a service range at the rear of the right end and a conservatory to the right of the main range.

The house is two storeys tall. On the ground floor, there are four early 19th-century sash windows with 12 lights each and one with 8 lights, all featuring flat heads made of gauged brick and recessed under round arches of gauged brick. The first floor has four early 19th-century sash windows with 3 + 6 lights, complete with external louvred shutters, and one 20th-century sash window with 2 lights. The centrally placed entrance features a six-panel door with a fanlight and radial tracery, recessed under a round arch of gauged brick. A plaster band runs below the sills of the first-floor windows. Both roofs have a shallow pitch and are hipped.

The Old Rectory was built for William Goodday, who served as the rector of the parish from 1801 to 1848, and the extension was designed to match the original structure. Memorials to him and his family can be found in the parish church.
