Description

This is a fine, circa 16th century timber-framed house, originally the Woolpack Inn, located at 77-81 Bradford Street, Bocking. The front of the building has a double jettied design with three gables facing the street, each at a different height. The house is two storeys high with attics. It has a three-window front. The windows on the first storey, and those in the gable ends that light the attics, are double-hung sash windows with glazing bars, set within flush cased frames. Number 77 features moulded bressumers (projecting beams). Number 79 has billet-moulded bressumers supported on shaped brackets; the bressumer over the gable displays the initials "RD" and the date 1607, along with "SD". Number 81 exhibits richly carved bressumers on the first storey and bears the initials “RAW” and the date 1590. The ground floor has square bays with casement windows. The roofs are tiled.
