Description
The railings and gate located approximately 5 metres north of Panfield Farmhouse date from the early 19th century. They are made of cast iron and are set on a dwarf wall of gault brick. The railings extend about 25 metres in length, including the gate and four stanchions. The stanchions are square and hollow, featuring scrolls and conventional foliage, each topped with five fleur de lys finials. The cast iron railings have a fleur de lys head on each bar, and the gate is designed similarly. The overall height of the railings is approximately one metre. One stanchion to the left of the gate is marked 'Goss Rayne 1837', indicating its origin from the Rayne Iron Foundry, which was still in operation in 1984 and is located 2 kilometres to the south.
