Description
Doreward's Hall is a significant house with important remains from the 16th century, along with additions from the 17th and 18th centuries. It is constructed partly of brick and partly of timber framing with plaster. The house is believed to have been rebuilt by Edward Thursby in 1579, with the current west wing likely being the original north wing of Thursby's house. The building has two storeys and attics, designed in an L-shaped plan with wings extending to the south-west and south-east.
The south-west front showcases interesting 16th-century features, although it is currently in a dilapidated state. This facade is made of red brick, featuring a moulded brick plinth and octagonal buttresses at the corners, which were originally topped with pinnacles. The facade is divided by moulded brick string courses between the storeys. It has one range of windows, with mullioned and transomed windows that include leaded lights. The ground and attic storey windows are three-light, while the first storey window is five-light, with brick pediments above the ground and first storey windows. The remaining windows in the house are primarily double-hung sashes with vertical glazing bars. The roofs are tiled.
