Description
The Horse Gin at Gosfield Hall, built in the 19th century, is located approximately 20 meters northwest of the northwest corner of the Hall. It features a timber frame set on a 2-foot red brick plinth and is topped with a hipped octagonal red tiled roof that has lead ridging. The wall framing includes V bracing to the uprights, and the roof is supported by a king post with a moulded capital. The main shaft is a vertical octagonal wooden structure, with down braces leading to the wheel shafts. There are iron braces for four timber harness shafts, and a complete harness loop with chains. Inside a low brick protection wall is the driving wheel, which includes cogs and pins. The shaft extends underground to an adjacent well.
