Description

Flendyshe House is an early 17th-century house that was remodelled in the 1807 and later in the 19th century. It is built of timber framing, brick, stucco, and roughcast render, with slate and plain tiled roofs. There are projecting red brick end stacks dating to the 17th century, with offsets. The house has a main range and a service wing at the rear, forming an L-shaped plan.

The main range is two storeys high and has four flush frame hung sashes with sixteen panes each, probably dating from around 1807, with shaped wooden lintels. The ground floor has full-length windows that were likely added in the later 19th century. A doorway is positioned off-centre, with a flat hood supported by pierced cast-iron brackets. The door is from the mid-to-late 19th century, and has glazing. The rear range, dating from 1807, is brick, painted, and has a tiled roof with a parapet and tumbled gable end. This range is also two storeys high.

Inside, original timber framing from the 1600 house is visible in both gable end walls and part of one side wall. The left-hand gable end wall has two original windows that are now sealed with diamond mullions. A small inglenook hearth is within this gable end. The roof over the front part of the house remains, but the upper part of the rafters has been cut down, with a later roof built above it. The rear range was rebuilt in 1807, but part of an earlier roof is concealed within its structure.
