Description
Wimbish Manor is a manor house dating from the early 18th century and the mid 19th century. It is constructed of red brick, featuring patterned red and burnt brickwork on the front wall from the mid 19th century, with some visible timber framing from the earlier house on the rear wall. The building has embattled slate roofs and a moulded brick eaves cornice at the front. The north range includes an 18th-century red brick ridge stack, while the south end has additional stacks. The plan consists of two parallel linked ranges, with small extensions on the north side and at the ends. The manor stands three storeys high and has a range of three flush frame hung sashes with central glazing bars, set in gauged brick arches. A central Roman Doric portico made of Ketton stone features a wooden entablature with a dentil cornice. Inside, one ground floor room showcases raised and fielded panelling below the dado, along with an overmantel and shutters. There is also a cellar, and the principal staircase features wrought ironwork from the 19th to 20th century. The main entrance was originally located on the north side.
