Description
This is an early 16th-century house with later 16th and 17th-century additions and minor 19th and 20th-century alterations. It is timber-framed, with some exposed framing, and has part-tiled roofs. The steeply pitched plain tiled roofs include one prominent brick stack, dating from around 1600, with offsets. A second, late 17th or early 18th-century stack is located alongside the early 16th-century range and is likely contemporary with a rear wing. The original plan was for a two-bay house with a side stack. Later in the 16th century, a range was added to the road, creating an L-shaped layout. The original house was two storeys high with a jettied first floor to the front, now partially obscured by the later extension. The jetty beam is supported by three brackets. Windows include a casement with small panes and one hung sash window on the ground floor. A doorway is located in a later porch set in the angle between the two 16th-century ranges. A timber-framed addition, also with a tiled roof and the earlier stack of around 1600, has two bays and two storeys. One side wall features a window with four lights, retaining original diamond mullions and pointed arches. Another window has a 19th-century horizontal sliding sash. A rear range, possibly a 17th-century kitchen wing, was built at the back, replacing what was originally a hall. This wing is framed and plastered and has a plain tiled roof, one dormer window, and an attic.
