Description
The Old Post Office is a house dating from the 15th and 17th centuries, which has been renovated and extended. It features a timber frame with rendered walls and tiled roofs. The roof over the hall range has been raised, and there is a late 17th to early 18th century ridge stack made of narrow red and gault brick. The building has a hall and crosswing plan and stands two storeys tall. Each storey has three late 20th century windows, while the crosswing also includes a modern window on each floor. Inside, the hall range on the first floor shows evidence of the roof raise. The crosswing consists of two bays and dates from the late 15th century. The interior displays exposed framing on both floors, with close-set studs and heavy ceiling joists laid flat. There is arch bracing to the cambered tie beams, and the roof structure features clasped side purlins with paired and curved wind bracing. The end facing the road has sites for diamond mullion windows.
