Description

Clare Farmhouse is a brick farmhouse dated 1808, as indicated on the staircase. It has a hipped roof covered in plain tiles. The building is two storeys high with attic space and a cellar, and it follows a double pile plan, characterised by paired end chimney stacks. The south-facing elevation is symmetrical. The ground floor features two recessed windows with twelve panes in sash windows, each with a segmental brick arch above. The first floor also has two similar sash windows. A moulded stone Tuscan portico provides entrance, with a half-glazed panelled door. Casement windows are present on a balconette on the first floor. Internally, contemporary details are found throughout. The farmhouse is documented in the Royal Commission for Historical Monuments’ West Cambs volume and the Victoria County History, Volume V.
