Description
Croxston Park is a country house that was rebuilt around 1760 for Edward Leeds, who died in 1803, and may include parts of a 16th-century house. An early 19th-century dining room was added to the northwest by the Newton family, along with a west wing that incorporates 18th-century outbuildings. The house is constructed of red brick with limestone dressings and features low pitched hipped slate roofs and five chimneys. It has three storeys and symmetrical facades with nine bays. The southeast facade has two outer bays that slightly project, a stone band at the first floor, a moulded stone cornice, and plain coping to the parapet. A 19th-century Ionic portico spans the five central bays and is supported by cast iron piers with limestone steps. The entrance features a painted stone Tuscan doorcase with half-glazed double doors. The windows on the ground and first floors are twelve-paned hung sash windows with flat, red gauged brick arches and jambs, while the second floor has smaller windows. The northwest facade is pedimented, with the centre three bays slightly projecting. Inside, the house contains mainly 18th and early 19th-century details, including staircases and chimney pieces.
