Description
Nos. 20 and 22 Church Lane are a pair of houses that were formerly a school and schoolhouse, dated 1843 according to plaques over the side entrances. They are constructed of gault brick in a rat-trap bond and feature long straw thatched roofs. The buildings have a symmetrical plan, consisting of a single-storey range with cross wings on both the right and left sides, each with attics.
Prominent features include two large ridge stacks adorned with sawtooth brick cornices and single octagonal shafts, each equipped with several flues and moulded brick caps. The front facade showcases two canted bay windows topped with red tile roofs, along with three ground floor casement windows. The entrances to the cross wings are accessed through closed gabled porches, which feature moulded stone three-centred arches and moulded stone jambs for the side lights.
