Description

The Old Cottage is a late 17th-century cottage with alterations likely made in the early 19th century, possibly by Repton, and a 20th-century addition. It is timber-framed with rough cast render and a plastered plinth, and has thatched roofs with two red brick gable end stacks. The cottage is one storey high with attics, arranged in an L-shaped plan. The walls were raised in the 19th century on the original east-west range, and the gable to the west was rebuilt with an octagonal shafted stack and an applied timber frame. A 20th-century lean-to addition features a half-glazed door, two ground floor casement windows, and two casement dormer windows. Inside, the cottage features stop-chamfered ceiling beams with run-out stops.
