Description
Two houses, originally possibly a farmhouse, stand at 60 and 62 South End in Bassingbourn-cum-Kneesworth. The core of the building dates to the mid-16th century or earlier, with additions and alterations made in the early 17th century, and later renovations in the 20th century. The houses are timber-framed with plaster infill, and have a red brick plinth. The roof is covered in modern plain tiles. A large brick stack is located behind the ridge, featuring three square shafts that have been reduced in size, along with an end stack to the rear wing. The houses are arranged in an L-shape, with a three-bay timber-framed rear wing; the centre bay appears to have originally been framed for a window and potentially a door, and a projecting ceiling beam may be a later addition. The front range comprises four close-studded timber-framed bays. An entrance is located on the left side, featuring a 20th-century glazed panelled door. There are three first-floor and three ground-floor casement windows of varying sizes. The original entrance has been blocked.
