Description

Yew Garth is a house that has been built in three different periods: the late 17th century, the 18th century, and around 1830. The original structure is timber-framed with red brick and plaster rendering, while the 18th-century extension features yellow brick. The front from around 1830 is made of clay bat and is also rendered. The roofs are covered with modern tiles and slate.

The late 17th-century part of the house is timber-framed and rendered, with red brick end walls. It has a steeply pitched roof with end stacks that have been rebuilt in grey brick and are now located internally. The layout consists of two bays on either side of a narrower entry bay, with the gable end facing the road. The house has two storeys. In the 18th century, an extension was added to the rear, which is made of brick, rendered, and has a tiled roof. Around 1830, the house was remodeled, adding a new entrance hall and a parlour wing at the road end. This section is made of clay bat, rendered with brick surrounds around the openings, and has a hipped slate roof. It features deep boarded eaves with brackets.

The first floor has two recessed twelve-pane hung sash windows, while the ground floor has one similar window and a doorway that is now blocked but retains part of its original glazed doorcase. The side elevation includes four sixteen-pane hung sash windows on the first floor and a verandah on the ground floor. Inside, the main ceiling beams from the late 17th century are exposed, and there is an openstring staircase with stick balusters from the 1830 part of the house.
