Description
The barn located to the northwest of Ditton Hall dates from the late 15th century or early 16th century. It is constructed with a timber frame and weatherboarding, raised above ground level on limestone rubble and Barnack limestone foundations, topped with plain tile roofs. The barn has two storeys and features a jettied design to the north, with a late gabled porch entrance on the east side. It consists of three bays, with upper and lower rooms spanning two bays, and a single bayed room to the south. The barn has been restored, retaining original diamond mullioned windows with shutter grooves on both floors. The ground floor walls are made of plank and muntin construction, while the first floor features rebated planks. Inside, there is a crown post roof. The barn may have originally served as a merchants' trading hall and warehouse and was initially unheated.
