Description

The Hall is a country house built in 1696 and extended in 1702, with later additions and interior remodelling from the late 18th century and 19th century. It is constructed of red brick, which is painted and partly plastered, with tuck-pointed joints in black. The house features a rebuilt or added parapet on a tiled roof, complete with end parapets on kneelers and original chimney stacks topped with modern pots. The main block, dating from the late 17th century, is flanked by late 18th-century wings, and there are later extensions at the rear, including a domestic block.

The building has two storeys and an attic, with five 19th-century gable dormers. The symmetrical facade showcases paired twelve-pane hung sashes set in raised cement surrounds. Above the central window, there is a carved stone displaying the arms of Marmaduke Dayrell, reset in the string course at the bottom of the parapet. The central doorway is framed by an early 19th-century stone porch, featuring clustered columns at the corners and half-round arches over the lights.

The late 18th-century wings on the north and south sides have arcaded designs, with the north wing comprising three bays and semicircular-headed windows with iron glazing bars and pivot lights from the 19th century. The south wing has blind arcading and a raised front wall. The gabled east elevation includes mid-19th-century labels above the windows. The entrance to the domestic wing on the south front is accentuated by flanking pilasters and a pediment.

Inside, the house underwent remodelling in the 19th century, featuring Gothic arches that lead to a loggia at the north end and similar arches forming a screen in the hall. There is an early 19th-century stick baluster staircase, and the main range and two rear wings have a butt purlin roof. The Hall was built for Sir Marmaduke Dayrell.
