Description

This Elizabethan house, dating from around 1700, was originally a service range for Shudy Camps Park, now known as The Hall. It is constructed of red brick and features a plat band and a plain tile roof with stone-coped gables. The building has two storeys and an attic, with a central ridge stack that has three ornamental flues.

On the first floor, there is a four-window range of two-light casements, with a three-light gabled dormer positioned to the centre left. The ground floor includes additional casements and three doors, all set under brick segmental arches. The leftmost door is framed by a pedimented porch with reeded corner pilasters, resembling a similar porch found on the rear wing of The Hall. There are also more casements on the gable ends and at the rear, where two French windows are located.

Inside, the house features chamfered bridging beams and a spiral staircase that leads from the ground floor to the attic, with a round octagonal newel set within a brick wall that also forms part of the main stack. A small section of splat baluster balustrade is present, along with open fireplaces and a variety of doors, including plank, two-panel, four-panel, and six-panel doors. The roof is ceiled at collar level, but the principals and butt purlins are visible. This house has seen comparatively little alteration over the years.
