Description

The Gables is a house dating back to the 16th century, with significant additions and alterations in the late 17th or early 18th century and further changes in the 19th century. It is constructed of timber frame with rendered surfaces, along with local 18th-century brick and 19th-century gault brick, all painted. The roof is covered in plain tiles, with a ridge stack and a side stack. The main part of the house is two storeys high, with a single-story cross-wing extending to the south, including an attic. The cross-wing features two modern three-light casement windows with glazing bars set within its gable. The main range has two first-floor and two ground-floor windows, each with four panes in sash windows, recessed within cambered arches of gauged brick. An open porch is located at the main entrance, positioned at the angle where the main range meets the cross-wing, and contains a six-panelled door. Inside, there are exposed timber-framed walls and three hearths within the main stack, built with local brick. This building possesses group value, contributing to the character of its surroundings.
