Description
The Cranny and The Nook is a cottage located on Church Street in Ickleton, dating from the late 15th century with alterations from the late 16th century and rebuilding in the 19th century. It features a timber-framed and plastered structure with a low-pitched slated roof and a flint and brick plinth up to the height of the windows. There is a partly plastered red brick ridge stack. The building stands two storeys tall and originally had a three-bay open hall, which now has a late 16th-century stack and floor frame inserted. The roof was raised in the 19th century, dividing the space into two dwellings. The main entrance is sealed. On the ground floor, there are two casement windows, one of which projects as a small oriel, and two first-floor horizontal sliding sash windows set in segmental brick arches. Inside, the exposed timber-frame reveals a substantial floor frame and a blocked doorway with a curved brace at the angle. A large cambered tie beam supports the open hearth.
